Lanka Private Passenger Transport Workers' Union says with the latest bus fare hike, the wages of the private bus employees should also increase by 10%.
 
Yesterday, the government agreed to upwardly revise the bus fares by 12.5%.
 
The General Secretary of the union, Sumithra Kumaradasa Kuliyapitiya said if wages are not increased within the next 2 weeks, they will launch an island-wide strike.
 
The All Ceylon Private Bus Unions Federation's Secretary Anjana Priyanjith said as a result of bus fares are increased by 12.5%, they could be able to increase the wages of the bus employees.
 
However, Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association's Gamunu Wijeratne said wages of bus employees could not be increased as such.
