GMOA offered to a discussion, token strike continues

The daily functions of many government hospitals throughout the country have been disrupted due to the token strike carried out by the Government Medical Officers' Association today (May 17).

The island-wide token strike was launched at 8 this morning against the Singapore Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement.

The strike will continue until 8 am tomorrow.

Our correspondents said that OPDs and clinics of government hospitals throughout the country have come to a standstill.

However, surgeries and emergency services are maintained as usual.

Meanwhile, GMOA convened a media conference in Colombo this afternoon to explain the cause of their union actions.

Representatives from several organizations of professionals were present at the media conference.

Meanwhile, journalists questioned Secretary to the President, Austin Fernando about the GMOA strike and the Sri Lanka Singapore FTA during a media conference held at the Department of Government Information today.

The Secretary to the President told journalists that the President has proposed that a meeting is held on May 22 to discuss their issues.
