The token strike launched by the GMOA in protest of the Singapore - Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement will be concluded at 8 this morning (May 18).

Patients were severely inconvenienced yesterday due to island-wide strike that began at 8 on Thursday morning.

At a media briefing held yesterday, presidential secretary Austin Fernando said that the GMOA is scheduled to have a discussion with the President on 22nd of this month regarding the issue.

However, GMOA executive committee member Dr. Prasaad Colambage said that if action was not taken to provide solutions the GMOA would resort to uninterrupted strikes in the future.

Meanwhile, as a consequence of the ‘work-to-rule’ campaign being carried out by members of Sri Lanka Immigration and Emigration Officers' Association delays are expected, therefore SriLankan Airlines advised passengers to arrive at Katunayake airport at least three hours prior to the departure time.
