The Minister of Law and Order Ranjith Madduma Bandara says that legal permission had not been granted to hold commemoration ceremonies remembering those who killed in the North during the conflict.
 
He said this while speaking to media after participating at a ceremony in Tanamalwila today (May 18).
 
Commemorations were organized throughout the island in remembrance of war heroes who fought to defeat the LTTE terrorists.
 
This morning in Werahera, a statue to commemorate war heroes was unveiled by Major General H. S. Munasinghe, the commander of the Army Medical Brigade.
 
The Jathika Hela Urumaya commemorated the day with inmates of the Army Rehabilitation Center in Ratmalana.
 
Meanwhile, the Manning Market Traders' Association organized a war heroes commemoration this morning.
 
In addition, another commemoration was held in front of Hasalaka Hero, Gamini Kularathna’s memorial statue.
 
Meanwhile, several Northern Provincial Councillors led by Chief Minister, C. V. Wigneshwaran and TNA members were present at the unveiling of a memorial statue in remembrance of the Tamil people who died in the war.
 
The event was held in the coast of Mullivaikkal in Mullaitivu earlier today.
 
Meanwhile, the Minister of Law and Order Ranjith Madduma Banda said no legal permission is given to hold commemorations in the North.
