The Met Department says that turbulence is developing in the vicinity of the Bay of Bengal.

Director Athula Karunanayake said that if it develops into a low-pressure zone, heavy showers can be expected in many areas of the island next week.

Meanwhile, Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Centre, Pradeep Kodippili advised people living nearby reservoirs to be vigilant for rising water levels in downstream as most of the spill gates are opened now.

He stated that 4 spill gates of Deduru Oya, one spill gate of Udawalawa reservoir and one spill gate of Kala Wewa have been opened.

The Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Centre further requested the public to refrain from using cordless phones and travelling in open vehicles, during lightning.
