The Inter-Provincial Private Bus Owners’ Association says that they will launch a strike action from midnight on Wednesday (May 23) if the government fails to increase bus fares by 12.5 percent as it had pledged.

However, Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association notes that bus fares can only be revised by 9 or 10 percent as per the National Policy on the revision of bus fares.

The association notes that the policy, which is based on 12 factors, has been formulated in a manner that both passengers and bus owners are protected.

The President of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association, Gemunu Wijerathna said that considering the hike in diesel prices and other factors, bus fares should only be revised by 9 or 10 percent.
