Over 50,000 persons from around 14,000 families in 11 districts have been affected by prevailing inclement weather.

The Disaster Management Center said that the death toll stands at 8.

Meanwhile, landslide warnings remain in effect in Kalutara, Ratnapura, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya, and Galle districts.

The Irrigation Department states that the water levels of Kelani, Kalu, and Gin rivers, as well as the Ma Oya, are on the rise once again.

The Department noted that water levels of Nilwala and Attanagalu Oya are now receding.

However, the Department requests the public refrain from approaching these rivers for the next several days.

Meanwhile, Puttalam and Anamaduwa are experiencing floods as all 8 sluice gates of Deduru Oya have been opened.

Last night’s floods resulted in most small tanks in the area overflowing and traffic on many roads was blocked.

Meanwhile, the Railway Control Room announced that train services on the Puttalam line have been limited to Lunuwila due to overflowing of Hamilton Canal.

Special joint rescue operations have been launched by the Navy, Army and the Air Force together with the Disaster Management Center.

The Army Media spokesman, Brigadier Sumith Atapattu said that extra troops have been deployed in the Ratnapura and Kalutara districts.
