The disaster management centre stated that more than 68 thousand persons have been affected due to inclement weather.

Disaster Management Centre Assistant Director, Pradeep Kodippili said that 24 thousand persons are sheltered at makeshift camps.

Meanwhile 3 sluice gates of Udawalawa reservoir were opened and the disaster management centre warns the residents living in the downstream to be extremely vigilant.

The met department states that the Prevailing rainy condition in the South-western part of the island is expected to enhance some extent from today.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces.

Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere particularly after 2.00 p.m.

Heavy falls, about 100 mili meters can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa, Western, Central and North-western provinces and in Galle, Matara districts.

The Irrigation Department says that since there was no heavy rain during the last 18 hours, the current water levels of the Kelani, Kalu and Gingg and Attanagaluoya are receding.  

However, the National Building Research Organisation said that land slide warning is still implemented in the Kalutara, Galle, Ratnapura, Kegalle and Nuwara Eliya districts due to adverse weather.
