The death toll due to inclement weather has risen to 16.

The Disaster Management Centre said that the majority of the deaths were caused by victims being swept away by flood waters or by drowning.

The impact of the adverse weather continues to affect 19 districts, where approximately 127,913 have been affected.

Meanwhile, the Irrigation Department said that the catchment areas of Kelani River and Attanagalu Oya had received heavy rains last night.

At the same time, Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Center Pradeep Kodippili said that the landslide red alerts will remain in place.

The Met Department said that the prevailing rains in the south-western part of the island will continue throughout today.

Showers or thunderstorms will occur at times in Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces, and elsewhere after 2 pm.
