The Disaster Management Center says 138,292 persons belonging to 35,129 families are affected by inclement weather, which has affected 20 districts.
 
The DMC said there are 16 fatalities and one person is missing.
 
53,616 persons of 13,199 families are given shelter at 231 welfare centres.
 
64 houses were fully destroyed and 3,841 houses were partially damaged.
 
Meanwhile, our correspondent said one of the sluice gates of the Laxapana Reservoir was opened this afternoon due to prevailing rains.
 
62-year-old, Ranjan de Silva of Beach Road, Ratmalana was a member of the Dehiwala - Mt. Lavinia Municipal Council.
 
He was elected to the council from Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna after winning at the February 10th Local Government Election.

Sports Minister directs officials to resume School Rugby League
 
It has been agreed during a discussion held this morning (May 25) to resume the matches of the School Rugby League from this week.
 
The discussion was held between the Sports Ministry officials and Education Ministry officials at the Sports Ministry.
 
The officials were asked to ensure the safety of the match officials and the players.
 
The matches of the School Rugby League Championship were postponed after clashes erupted during several matches in the past few days.
