Schools in South open tomorrow after health scare

The government schools in the Southern Province that were closed following the spread of viral flu will be re-opened tomorrow (May 30).
 
However, the Provincial Education Minister, Chandima Rasaputra told us that the pre-schools will be opened only on next Monday.
 
Meanwhile, Provincial Health Services Director, Dr. G. Wijesuriya stated that the closure of schools has not indicated any sign of controlling the spreading of the disease.
 
He said, therefore, he informed school authorities to re-open schools.
 
However, Provincial Education Minister Rasaputra said that such a notice has not been received from the Provincial health authorities as yet.
 
He said schools will be re-opened tomorrow and the health authorities should take the responsibility.
 
Meanwhile, Director of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, Dr. Jayampathi Senanayake told us that there are doubts that the cause of death of several children could be the result of allergic reactions to several viruses.
 
11 children below the age of 12 in the southern province have died of this flu so far.
