Sri Lanka Railways has commenced an internal inquiry after 3 train engines at the Maradana Railway Yard found to be damaged.

The damages were identified last evening, an official from Sri Lanka Railways said.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Railways authorities say there will be train delays as a result of the ongoing strike action launched by several trade unions.

The unionists say they would continue their 48-hour token strike.

They commence a 48-hour token strike at 4 pm yesterday (May 29) over three demands, including a 12.1 percent salary increase be implemented.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Railways announced that casual, temporary and contractual employees of the Railway Technical Service should report for work immediately

However, the trade unions that are engaged in the strike said that if the authorities take action to suppress the trade unions, they would take action to continue the token strike.

Railways General Manager, S. M. Abeywickrema also requested that the employees end the strike and report for work.

However, the President of the Railway Technical Services’ Trade Union Committee, Sampath Rajitha said that the strike would be in force till 4 pm tomorrow.
