Train strike disrupts daily services, CID to investigate sabotage

The daily train schedules including office trains were disrupted this morning (May 30) as a consequence to the ongoing strike by several railway trade unions.
 
Railway General Manager, S. M. Abeywickrama has made a complaint to the Criminal Investigation Department to probe several acts of sabotage at Maradana and other places.
 
The Railway Technical Services’ Union Committee is staging a 48-hour token strike demanding a 12.1% salary increase.
 
The Main Control Room says that 350 services were delayed due to the strike.
 
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Railways announced that casual, temporary and contracted employees of the Railway Technical Service should report for work immediately
 
However, the trade unions that are engaged in the strike said that if the authorities take action to suppress the trade unions, they would take action to continue the token strike.
 
Railways General Manager, S. M. Abeywickrama also requested that the employees end the strike and report for work.
