The Postal and Telecommunication Officers' Union launched a 48-hour strike from last midnight over several demands including the confirmation of the new appointments of postmasters.

The union's General Secretary H. K. Kariyawasam said that they would continue the strike for two days.

Convening a media briefing in Kandy yesterday (Jun 03), Posts, Postal Services and Muslim Affairs Minister A. H. M. Haleem said that action was being taken to provide solutions to their demands.

Meanwhile, water supply to several areas has affected as a result of a strike launched by the employees of National Water Supply and Drainage Board.

They demand a salary hike of 25%.

The NWSDB employees say they have stopped attending to weekend work as a trade union action.
