AG informs his decision on Ranjan's statement to courts

Attorney General has informed the Supreme Court that at a glance there is a prima facie case of contempt in Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake's statement.

This was informed when the case was taken before Supreme Court judges Eva Wanasundara and L. T. B. Dehideniya.

Earlier, the Supreme Court informed the Attorney General to express his opinion on the controversial statement made by the Deputy Minister.

Ranjan Ramanayake had said on several occasions that most of the judges and lawyers in Sri Lanka are corrupt.

He made a statement on 21st of August, 2017.

Thereafter, Ven. Magalkande Sudatta Thera and several others went to the Supreme Court against the Deputy Minister's statement and the case was first taken up on 14th of December.

The Additional Solicitor General Priyantha Naavana who appeared for the Attorney General informed the Supreme Court today that the statement made by the Deputy Minister, at a glance is in contempt of court.

The case will be called again on 18th of June.
