The 48-hour token strike launched by the postmasters has affected the distribution of letters and parcels.

They began the strike last midnight (Jun 03), based on several demands including that they be made permanent.

A spokesperson from the union said the strike action has affected 653 post offices and 42 satellite offices.

The union's General Secretary H. K. Kariyawasam said that they would continue the strike for two days.

Convening a media briefing in Kandy yesterday (Jun 03), Posts, Postal Services and Muslim Affairs Minister A. H. M. Haleem said that action was being taken to provide solutions to their demands.

Meanwhile, water supply to several areas has affected as a result of a strike launched by the employees of National Water Supply and Drainage Board.

They demand a salary hike of 25%.

The NWSDB employees say they have stopped attending to weekend work as a trade union action.
