Representatives of Fishermen’s Organizations say that Kerosene should be offered to all citizens at the previous price.

However, the Subject Minister and State Minister share different views.

State Minister Dileep Wedarachchi had said that it may be possible to offer a litre of Kerosene at a price between 70 to 80 rupees, by next Monday.

However, Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Vijith Vijayamuni Soyza said that he withdrew from discussions held regarding the matter.

However, the All Island Fishermen’s Federation said that if steps are not taken to provide Kerosene at 44 rupees, they would carry out a major struggle.

The price of kerosene was increased by Rs. 57 to Rs. 101 in April this year.

The government said the price was increased in such a way to reduce misuse.

They said certain buses and lorries adulterate kerosene with diesel.

However, this price hike has affected the fisheries community and they are urging the government to cut down the price in order to save their livelihood.
