Lindula UC Chairman & 3 others further remanded in child kidnapping case

Ashoka Sepala, Chairman of the Lindula Urban Council along with three others were further remanded until 18th of June for allegedly kidnapping and trafficking of a 5-year-old girl.

The suspects were produced before Nuwara Eliya Magistrate Pramodaka Jayasekera this morning (Jun 11).

The Magistrate also ordered that the small girl should be returned to the custody of her father.

Ashoka Sepala who contested from an independent group under the election symbol, clock, during the recent Local Government election was elected the Chairman of Lindula Urban Council.

On the 4th of June police arrested four suspects including Sepala, and 3 others, one of whom was councilor Ishara Anuruddha.

An investigation was launched in response to a complaint made in 2017, regarding the alleged kidnapping and selling a 5-year-old girl from Portmore Estate in Agarapatana.

The investigation led to the arrest of the 4 suspects by Nuwara Eliya Police.
