President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed the National Economic Council to take steps to protect the local entrepreneurs.

He gave this directive when the NEC met at the Presidential Secretariat last afternoon with President at the chair.

The President's Media Unit said that 6 issues encountered by the local business community were discussed here.

It was highlighted here as a result of the removal of CESS on imported ceramic sanitary ware, the local industrialists are facing the danger of extinction.

Then it was decided to impose an import duty which was similar to the CESS.

The President said that the state-owned banks should lend to the local industrialists for concessionary rates in order to improve the domestic manufacturing sector.
