The hospital sources say that the chief incumbent of Kirivehera Ven. Kobawaka Dhamminda Thera who was admitted to a private hospital in Colombo with gunshot injuries is now recovering.
 
A hospital spokesperson said that necessary treatments have already been given to the injured Thera.
 
The Thera had received gunshots in his abdomen and a hand.
 
Police have identified the main suspect connected to the shooting as a former custodian of the Mahasen Devalaya, Bopegedara Asela Lakshman Bandara.
 
Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekera noted that the suspect had fled the area.
 
The Special Task Force has recovered a sword, 2 daggers and 10 live bullets from the suspect’s residence.
 
The Ven. Dhamminda Thera and the resident monk Ven. Veedapola Sobhitha Thera were shot at while coming down from the upper compound to the lower compound of the Kirivehera, last Tuesday night.
 
Three unidentified individuals had fled in a red jeep parked near the Kirivehera, following the shooting.
 
The red colour jeep, with the registration number UP CAG 8531 which was parked in Gaminipura at the main suspect’s residence was found last evening.
 
Police said that the 2 other accomplices have also identified and the probe is underway to arrest the suspects.
