Sri Lanka Customs officers at the Bandaranayake International Airport's Cargo Village detected 32 chameleons or lizards sent from Australia illegally.

The reptiles were concealed in a CPU in 4 bags.

The goods have been sent from Australia via Singapore to an address in Kalutara.

However, since no one came to clear the goods, the authorities have checked the address and it was found to be a fake one.

Then a decision was made to open the package.

The animal quarantine officer has recommended sending back the reptiles.

Investigations are being carried out jointly by the Directorate of Revenue and Services Katunayake and Bio-Diversity Control Unit of Customs.
