One dead after police open fire in Jaffna clash

A person was killed as police opened fire during an attempt to contain a riot that broke out between two groups in Thellippalai in Jaffna .

An OIC in the area said that the clash took place last night  near Our Lady of Perpetual Sucker church in Maallaakam, Theli-palai.

The riot broke out over a private dispute.

Reports state that when police attempted to intervene, a  group present at the site had tried to attack the police.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a person was fatally shot as police fire arm went off . The person killed was a 31 year old resident of  Mallaakam.
