The Supreme Court ordered the Attorney General to file a draft charge sheet before June 30th, against deputy minister Ranjan Ramanayake for being in contempt of court.

The case was taken before Chief Justice Priyasath Dep and Justice Murdu Fernando this morning.

Additional Solicitor General Priyantha Navaana who made submissions before Court on behalf of the Attorney General said that all Supreme Court judges  have already observed that deputy minister Ranjan Ramanayake’s statement was, at a glance, in contempt of court

The bench of Supreme Court judges including the chief justice ordered the Attorney General to draft a rule document before June 30th asking Ranjan Ramanayake to show cause as to why he was not punished after being in contempt of court.

After a meeting with the Prime Minister on August 21st last year, deputy minister, Ranjan Ramanayake said, to media, that the majority of judges and attorneys-at-law are corrupt.

Later, MaagalKande Sudaththa Thera and a retired air force officer, Sunil Perera filed a petition against the deputy minister with the Supreme Court.
