The Postmaster General Rohana Abeyratne says that employees of the Postal Department who fail to report to work today (Jun 19) will be considered as having vacated their posts.

Issuing a communiqué, the Postmaster General said that holiday leave for employees had been cancelled.

He said that it is the responsibility of the Staff Officers for providing facilities and security, to open and operate the post offices.

Police assistance will also be made available.

The Postmaster General also stressed that the administration is no longer accountable for the security of temporary staff, casual, substitutes, acting and permanent workers who do not return to work today.

The strike action launched by the Joint Postal Trade Union Front in protest against the recruitment process has entered into its second week.
