Minister Posts, M.H.A Haleem requested the striking postal employees to return to their places of employment as steps have been taken to have the demands put forward by them are addressed.

He made this request in response to MP Dallas Alahapperuma’s query in Parliament today (Jun 21).

The postal workers have launched their strike 11 days ago.

Meanwhile, Assistant Director of the Office for Elder Persons P.D.R. Kulatunga said steps have been taken to have monthly grants paid to the elders in the community via district and divisional secretariats.

Treasurer of the All Ceylon postal and Telegram Union, Rohitha Jayasinghe said that the discussion with the Ministry Secretary was unsuccessful and therefore they decided to continue their trade union action.
