The National Transport Commission says that the on-going strike by the Southern long distance private bus owners is not fair.

The Commission's chairman, M. A. P. Hemachandra said that steps will be taken to cancel the route permits of the bus owners and permits of the drivers and conductors, who take part in this strike.

The strike was launched this morning (Jun 25) citing that they are not allowed to pick up passengers for short distances.

Our correspondents stated that hundreds of office workers who were returning to Colombo after the weekend were gravely inconvenienced.

Meanwhile, short distant bus operators complained that their daily income has dropped consequent the passengers being picked up by long distant service buses.

National organizer of Lanka Private Bus owners union, Dilip Ratnaweera said that long distance service buses cannot be allowed to pick up passengers from short distant bus halts, as their incomes are declining.
