National Transport Commission says that the services of the drivers and conductors of the Southern long-distance buses will be cancelled from the day after tomorrow (Jun 28), if they do not report to work today.

The Chairman of the NTC, M. A. P. Hemachandra requested the bus operators to stop the strike.

Meanwhile, five Sri Lanka Transport Board buses were pelted between Galle and Ambalangoda last night.

Police have arrested a suspect for allegedly throwing a stone at a bus nearby the Ambalangoda, Urawatte Bridge.

Aruna Halpe, the Chairman of the Matara Passenger Transport Company, said if their issues are not addressed they would launch a continuous strike with the support of the bus operators of the Southern Expressway.

The office workers were greatly inconvenienced as a result of the strike during this morning as well.

The Southern Province's long-distance bus operators began their strike after they were not allowed to stop buses at short distance bus halts.
