The Supreme Court ordered former North Central Province Chief Minister, Peshala Jayarathna to pay compensation of Rs. 250,000 to R. P. K. Bandara, a former principal of Nivanthaka Chetiya Maha Vidyalaya in Anuradhapura.

At the conclusion of a Fundamental Rights petition filed by the principal, the judgment was given by a bench of three Supreme Court judges including Justice Eva Wanasundara, Justice Sisira de Abrew and Justice Nalin Perera today.

The petitioner sought justice citing that in 2016, he was illegally transferred, thereby violating his fundamental rights.

In addition to the compensation, the court ordered that the complainant is reinstated to his previous post at the same school within two months.

In addition, the Supreme Court ordered that the state award a compensation of Rs. 50,000 to the principal.
