UNP backbenchers want Vijayakala to be removed

Backbenchers of the United National Party have requested the Party leadership to remove State Minister Vijayakala Maheshwaran from all positions of the party and her State Ministerial post for making a statement that the LTTE should be re-emerged.

Several factions made complaints with the Police Headquarters today against the statement made by her yesterday.

Pivituru Hela Urumaya, Sinhale Api Jathika Sanvidhanaya, Sinhala Ravaya and Jathika Sanvidanaya are among them.

Legal aspects with regard to the swearing-in by a parliamentarian are explained under the 5th Chapter of the constitution.

It further describes that all elected public representatives should swear and pledge with honour to protect and follow the constitution.

Accordingly, the Republic of Sri Lanka has been identified as a unitary state and what kind of impact would bring by making a statement similar to that of the one made by State Minister Maheswaran on the sovereignty of such a unitary state.

The General Secretary of Sinhala Ravaya, Magalkande Sudaththa Thera who made the first complaint against the statement made by Child Affairs State Minister, Vijayakala Maheswaran demanded that State Minister, Maheswaran should be arrested and initiate investigations.
