State Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs Dr. Harsha de Silva says that the fuel pricing formula will continue to be in place.

Although the Finance Ministry said that fuel prices were increased with effect from midnight day before yesterday, based on the pricing formula, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation took steps to sell fuel at previous prices from last afternoon.

It seemed that the decision to increase the prices had been implemented without making the relevant authorities known about it.

However, Lanka IOC said that they would sell fuel at the increased rates.

State Minister Dr. Harsha de Silva said that the CPC has no authority in deciding the fuel prices.

However, President of the Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya at the CPC, Ananda Palitha said that the issue had cropped up by leaving the subject Minister in the dark regarding the decision taken by the committee looking in to fuel prices.

Thereafter, the Finance Ministry yesterday said that a decision on the fuel price will be taken at the next cabinet meeting.
