Armed forced to be deployed to prevent drug trafficking

Government is considering to seek the active participation of the three-armed forces to tackle drug trafficking.

Accordingly, the Cabinet had passed a proposal to draft the relevant bill.

Co-Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Gayantha Karunatillake revealed this during the weekly Cabinet media briefing held at the Government Information Department this morning (Jul 11).

The new legislature, Drug Controlling Special Provision Bill will empower the armed forces for a particular period to fight the drug menace as recommended by the Attorney General.
