The resident monk of Gallanda temple in Ratnapura who was arrested yesterday after being accused of strangulating a policeman to death was remanded until 25th of July.
 
The monk was produced before Ratnapura Magistrate, Saliya Chandana Abeyratne today (Jul 11).
 
It was revealed that the monk had assaulted and strangulated the policeman who had visited the temple to serve a warrant on the monk.
 
The policeman died upon admission to Ratnapura Hospital.
 
Police Spokesperson said that the deceased was 55-year-old sergeant Chandra Jayalal Samarawickrema.
 
He was a father of two.
