The Organization to Protect Tamed Elephants is objecting to the government's decision to build an elephant captive center at Kalawana.

The Cabinet which met on Tuesday decided to acquire a 36-hectare block of land, to build the captive center to keep the last known two elephants that are roaming in the Sinharaja forest.

Earlier, the Minister of Wildlife, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka said that the two should be relocated at the Horowpathana Elephant Orphanage.

However, many people and civil organizations objected to the move.

But the residents around the Sinharaja forest complain that the two elephants are encroaching their villages, creating fear among them.

It prompted the authorities to find an alternative solution.
