Joint Opposition prepares to surround Prime Minister’s office

The Joint Opposition is planning to surround the Prime Minister’s Office to stage a protest against the leasing of Mattala International Airport to an Indian company.
 
A Joint Opposition representative told our news team that the protest will be held next month.
 
Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva told a group of Joint Opposition MPs yesterday (Jul 18) that the decision to lease the airport to an Indian company was taken by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
 
In addition, the Joint Opposition decided during a meeting yesterday, to stage a protest against the delay of elections for the North Central, Sabaragamuwa and Eastern provincial councils.
 
The terms of each provincial council have already lapsed.
 
Several members of the SLFP of Group of 16 including MPs, S.B. Dissanayake, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and W. D. J. Senevirathna were present at the meeting.
 
However, it is reported that MP, Dayasiri Jayasekera did not participate.
