The life expectancy of a Sri Lankan male has increased to 79.

The Ministry of Health also stated that a women’s life expectancy is higher than their male counterparts.

The birth rate, however, remains at a low level, thereby leading to the younger population notably decreasing.

Director of Youth, Elders and Differently-abled, Dr. Ananda Jayalal said that economic and health issues are likely to increase as a result.

At the same time, a World Bank report released on primary health in Sri Lanka stated that the population over 60 would double within the next 25 years.
