Foreign currency smuggling attempt thwarted

Two Sri Lankan passengers who were traveling to Shanghai China last afternoon were apprehended by Customs Officials attached to the Departure terminal of Bandaranaike International Airport while attempting to smuggle out foreign currency notes valued at Rs. 17.7 million.
 
The suspects aged between 43 and 32 years are residents of Akurana and Dehiwela.
 
US dollars, Hong Kong dollars, and Indian rupees were among the currency notes that were detected.




Meanwhile, in a separate case, a 43-year-old Singapore passenger who was returning to Singapore early this morning was apprehended by Sri Lanka Customs at the BIA while to smuggle out 50,000 Euro and 50,000 Brunei Dollar which are valued at Rs. 15.3 million.
