Court seeks details from a private bank relating to alleged financial transactions

Colombo Chief Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake has ordered that bank reports required for an investigation relating to cheques that were released during the last presidential election, be handed over to the Police Special Investigation Unit.
 
It was related to Rs. 11.5 billion that were allegedly removed from Temple Trees within a few days prior to the last presidential election.
 
The order was issued to a leading commercial bank.
 
The unit led evidence before the court and according to investigations carried out regarding the incident, between 20th of November 2014 and  8th of January 2015,  eighty-two suspicious cheques worth almost Rs. 10 billion had been released from the relevant bank.
