COPE to probe power purchasing accusations

The secretaries of two Ministries have been summoned to the COPE today for an inquiry regarding the crisis situation that has cropped up relating to the price paid for purchasing electricity from private power plants and the unit price.
 
The secretaries to the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy and the Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs have been summoned along with the chairmen of Sri Lanka Electricity Board and Sri Lanka Public Utilities Commission.
 
Reports say that the inquiry will be based on the payment of Rs. 800 million to a private power supplier in Embilipitiya after obtaining electricity.
