The Treasury has approved an increase in the DAT payment, which is the Obstacle and Attendance Transport Allowance granted to doctors.

The allowance will be increased by Rs. 15,000 for a general practitioner and Rs. 25,000 for a specialist doctor.

The Finance Ministry said that at present all government doctors receive Rs. 35,000 as DAT allowance.

The Management Services Department had recently requested recommendations from the Treasury to increase the allowance.

However, the Government Medical Officers’ Association says that the island-wide token strike to be launched on 3rd of August will go ahead as scheduled.
