The Department of Immigration and Emigration notes that a new programme will be implemented to apprehend those who are involved in human trafficking.

Speaking to us, the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration, Nihal Ranasinghe stated that the programme will be implemented with the collaboration of the port, airport, customs and the Foreign Employment Bureau.

Accordingly, the Controller General noted that measures will be taken to develop a new structure with the cooperation of the said organizations.

The new programme is expected to be implemented next year.

Senior officials at the Department of Immigration and Emigration noted that migrations suspected to be human trafficking take place through the Katunayake International Airport.
