Services on upcountry line restored after accident in Panaliya

Services on the upcountry line had been restored this afternoon following the train accident at Panaliya, Polgahawela yesterday.

Later, the engine driver and three of his fellow workers of the slow train from Colombo to Rambukkana were interdicted.

Transport Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva also appointed a committee to probe the accident.

It is reported that the damage caused to the Railway Department by yesterday's accident would be nearly 20 million rupees.

32 persons were injured in the accident.
