The Sigiriya hotel owners say that due to the rise in crimes around Seegiriya Cultural Triangle, there is a potential danger that the tourism industry might be affected.

The chairman of the Cultural Triangle Hotel Association, Saliya Dayananda said that in the past three months alone, close to 12 hotels had been burgled.

Tourists at the hotels were also attacked and money and personal items had been stolen.

The chairman added that although Sigiriya and Dambulla Police Stations are investigating the cases, no suspect is arrested yet.

A senior officer at Sigiriya Police said that the suspects responsible for the burglaries have been identified and authorities are working to arrest them.

The chairman of the Cultural Triangle Hotel Association Saliya Dayananda insisted that the absence of tourist police for Sigiriya is a serious problem.
