Parliamentarian Ranjith Zoysa says that following the decision made by the speaker yesterday on the Opposition Leader’s post the Joint Opposition is looking at to be independent in parliament.
 
MP Zoysa said that the final decision in this regard will be made at a meeting with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa next Tuesday.
 
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya informed parliament yesterday that he is unable to change the current opposition leadership as per the constitution and traditions.
 
The speaker made this announcement yesterday following the request made by 8 MPs of the Joint Opposition recently, to appoint Dinesh Gunawardena as the leader of the opposition.
