Deputy Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Ashok Abeysinghe says that even if the railway strike is continued further the government will never agree to their unfair demands.

The Deputy Minister said that the Ministry of Finance had requested for two months to provide solutions to the salary anomalies highlighted by the unions.

The unannounced trade union action was launched by railway trade unions on Wednesday at 3 pm demanding their salary anomalies be rectified.

A committee headed by Dr. Sarath Amunugama had prepared a report with a recommendation to a salary hike.
However, it was vehemently opposed by the Minister of Finance, Mangala Samaraweera citing that it would create greater anomalies in their entire public sector.

State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardana said that if the need arises the Army may be deployed to run the trains.

However, Secretary of the locomotive engine drivers association Indika Dodangoda said that they would continue their strike until their demands are met.

Deputy Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Ashok Abeysinghe said that alternate transport facilities will be provided from tomorrow.
