The Education Ministry has filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department against the false claim that the Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam is preparing a cabinet paper to stop salaries to teachers during school vacations.
A Ministry spokesperson told us that the complaint had been handed over to CID this morning.
Certain social media sites are stating that the Minister of Education had said at a meeting in Badulla that steps would be taken to stop teacher salaries from being paid during the August and December vacation periods.
The Ministry, in a communiqué, refuted the claim, and, the Ministry Secretary, Sunil Hettiarachchi said that the allegation was untrue.
Meanwhile, it has been discovered that a controversial A/L timetable has been published by a private website.
Commissioner General of Examinations, Sanath Pujitha stated that students should download the official timetable from the Department’s website.
However, he said that if any student is affected by the fake timetable, attention will be drawn to such complaints after the conclusion of the examination.
