Eight arrested over stealing Rs. 5.7mn from Batticaloa Samurdhi bank

Police have arrested eight persons including six women for fraudulently withdrawing Rs. 5.7 million from a state bank that was belonging to Batticaloa Samurdhi bank.
They were arrested yesterday.
The suspects have transferred Rs. 3.6 million from a state bank to seven Samurdhi recipients using a fake rubber stamp and the signature of District Samurdhi Director.
It was revealed Rs. 2.1 million has been transferred to the account of the person who was the mastermind behind this fraud through a cheque.
The suspects are residents of Batticaloa and Pulindumalai.
