Surgery on Gnanasara Thera concluded

A one-hour surgery was done on Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary, Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera to remove a stone developed in his kidney today.
The Deputy Director of Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital, Dr. Prabhath Weerawatta said that the Thera is receiving post-treatment at a general ward.
However, Dr. Weerawatta said that outsiders will be allowed to visit the Thera only on the permission of prison officials.
Meanwhile, a letter has been sent to President Maithripala Sirisena by the Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagri Maha Sangha Sabhawa of Syamopali Vansika Maha Nikaya which Ganansara Thera represents.
In his letter, chief prelate of the Nikaya, Ven. Iththapane Dammalankara Thera said that the offence alleged to have been committed by Gnanasara Thera does not aim to achieve any personal gains.
The Nayake Thera further states that the Sri Lankan Bhikkhus have fearlessly and honestly expressed his views for the betterment of the people since antiquity.
The chief prelate Dammalankara Thera further stated in his letter that it will be a challenge before the Bhikkhu society if such a monk is jailed for appearing in the name of the country.
