The police media spokesperson’s office said that the three policemen who were arrested by the Police Special Task Force by mistake.

The police officers are members of the Panadura Walana Anti-Vice Unit.

Issuing a communiqué the STF said that accordingly the police officers concerned were released after producing them before the Kalutara Magistrate.

Police had earlier stated that a police inspector and two police constables of the Panadura Walana Anti-Vice Unit were arrested at 5.45 am yesterday on suspicion that they were preparing for a robbery.

It had been stated in the relevant report that they had been handed over to the Police Organized Crimes Division for further investigation.

However, it had later come to light that the STF had arrested the police officers concerned by an error regarding incidental facts.

However, while three out of the five more civilians arrested in connection with the incident were remanded until the next day, another person is receiving treatment at the Kalubowila Hospital under police security.

The police media spokesman’s office said that another person was released.
