The discussion between the President and the railway trade unions ended without a solution this afternoon.

Representatives from several railway trade unions, Transport Ministry secretary and members of the ‘Salaries Commission’ participated in the discussion.

Meanwhile, the executive committee of the railway trade union federation, which was convened later, has decided to take a decision tomorrow.

They expect to have another round of discussions with the salary commission.

Meanwhile, the compartments of the Colombo bound Senkadagala Menike express train was separated from the engine near the Daaraluwa railway station between Gampaha and Veyangoda this morning.

The engine had to be reversed about 500 meters to re-attach with the compartments.

In addition, it was reported that two express trains came face to face on the same track near Shrawasthipura in Anuradhapura yesterday.

An investigation has commenced into the incident.
