Elections commission says election will be held in January if committee report is delivered in 2 months

Secretary of the Provincial Council Delimitation Committee, Additional Elections Commissioner, Saman Sri Rathnayake stated that if the committee that will be appointed by the speaker and will be presided over by the Prime Minister, can produce its report within two months, the provincial council election can be held in January.   

However, he noted that the subject minister, Faizer Mustapha should take measures to pass the amendments to the act within this timeframe.

The Additional Elections Commissioner further noted that if the committee produces the report before the Northern Provincial Council is dissolved on the 25th of October as scheduled, the election for all six provincial councils can be held at once.
